The Mob Doctor: TV Review

Jordana Spiro plays Dr. Grace Devlin, who saves people at a Chicago hospital by day and also saves whoever and whatever the mob needs her to when they need her to — night or day. Turns out Grace’s little brother Nate (Jesse Lee Sopher) got in too deep on the gambling, and Grace apparently is paying that debt off as a private doctor to the bad guy. Produced by Sony Pictures Television. Created and written by Josh Berman and Rob Wright; Mr. Berman, Mr. Wright, Carla Kettner and Michael Dinner, executive producers The premiere episode jumps in with Devlin already working for the mob, so we don’t get a whole lot of set-up at first, nor do we get to see what her life was like before she was pushed into this situation. The XFactor Review

The XFactor” is essentially “American Idol” with a wider participant base and judges who promise to be, aggregately and individually, better than most (though not this last) seasons of “American Idol.” Not only has Paula Abdul taken whatever steps were necessary to appear fit and consistently sensible, the addition of music producer L.A. Reid brings a discerning ear and gravitas to the table that balances Cowell much more evenly than Randy Jackson ever did. There isn’t enough space to write about how awesome Demi Lovato is.Not only has she been great all on her own, but Demi has helped Simon shine as well. Their relationship continues to be fun, as noticed when he ragged on her for catching pneumonia and she followed it up with “Simon’s just gross.” Unlike his forced catty behavior with Paula all of those years, this dynamic seems very genuine, and it continues to be fun to watch. Revolution- NBC Review

The NBC fall series kicked off in a big way last week with their premier of the new show Revolution. Revolution takes place in the near future, in a world where all forms of energy one day mysteriously ceased to exist. The immediate aftermath is the most interesting part of the blackout – a freeway packed with cars, their headlights on full beam, suddenly descending into darkness, is a visually arresting image.  The show stars a number of popular actors. The behind-the-scenes team has a proven record to create a sucessfull season. (more…)

Honey Boo Boo- TLC Review

TLC has another reality TV show on its hand and in our opinion its getting a bit out of hand with its new show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Perhaps we saw enough of her during her short stint on Toddler and Tiaras looks like she had enough fans to get her own show.  Ever since it premiered on Wednesday night the internet has been blown up with searches about Honey Boo Boo. Everybody loves to laugh at the cliche, and reality shows love to exploit that. But once the cliches are in on the joke, they start pandering to the camera, and some of the joy is lost. They just become annoying because now they’ve taken the power we had over them — laughing at their pathetic lives — and are turning it into cash. (more…)

Resident Evil:Retribution

The top film of the weekend was Sony’s Resident Evil:Retribution, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, which earned $21 million. The series, based on a horror video game franchise, has been one of the more consistent genre franchises over the last decade. The Resident Evil: Retribution story picks up where the last film left off: Alice (Jovovich) and her allies are stranded on the Arcadia tanker with an Umbrella strike force ready to attack. After an explosive shootout, Alice is taken hostage by the Umbrella Corporation and moved to a secret facility – where she is interrogated by her former friend Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), who is under the control of anti-humanity super computer, The Red Queen. In order to rescue Alice, who holds the key to a powerful weapon, Ada Wong (Bingbing Li), Leon S. Kennedy (Johann Urb), Barry Burton (Kevin Durand), and returning partner-in-zombie killing Luther West (Boris Kodjoe) lead a strike on the Umbrella facility – fighting through a number of “biohazards” (creatures and people that have been mutated by T-Virus and Las Plagas infections). However, as the team moves from one branch of the facility to the next, new horrors and even some long-awaited answers are unearthed.

Resident Evil: Retribution, in other words, has taken great pains to find a way to have real-life game stages. This sensibility extends to the way the film explains its mission — rendezvous with a rescue team and find a way out — and the way it provides weapons for its characters: armories rise out of the ground, or, in a sequence that demonstrates definite game logic. The film’s crazy action scenes have not a whiff of consequence to them, and other than Alice, the foremost quality of all of the characters is their disposability.

The Big Bang Theory Review

While the target audience may have grown in number due to dumbing down of the dialogues, the intellectual stimulation. The Big Bang Theory started off as a Physics-themed weekly TV show onCBS, revolving around three Physicists – Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter and Rajesh Koothrappali and an Engineer –Howard Wolowitz. And Penny who is a waitress that lives across the hall from the nerds. Penny is the gorgeous girl next-door to Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment, and though she does not have any knowledge in physics or science, she makes success by being a funny character frequently having hilarious comments and on- and off-going relationships.

This fun, well-written series features an endearing cast who provide viewers with lots of humorous moments. Leonard, Sheldon, and their friends fully embrace their genius and recognize their social shortcomings. They also understand the value of friendship, loyalty, and staying true to themselves. The series is part spy spoof, part workplace comedy, and it is a genuinely engaging homage to the nerd hero.

All together, this unit of comedians make the show’s half-hour episodes pure enjoyment and whether you like physics, women or neither, this show is surely going to get you laughing!
